Air Flow Measuring Valve

The air flow indicating valve is suitable for use on railway locomotives that are equipped to operate trains fitted with automatic air brakes, and is designed for fitting in the main air supply pipe to the driver's brake valve.

When used in conjunction with a suitable air flow indicator, it provides a visual indication of the rate of flow of air into the brake pipe which can be interpreted into information concerning variations of brake pipe leakage whilst running, the state of release of the brake following an application, and the operation of a guards or passenger emergency valve or parting or breaking of a brake pipe coupling whilst running.

Such information is particularly useful when a long train is being operated, and can provide early warning of emergency situations. Electrical switches may also be included in the system to operate warning buzzers or lights, if required.
